Workers Justice Project (WJP) invites you, your family, and friends to take part in our Posada Por La Justicia on December 19 from 5:30pm to 8pm! Join us at 334 South 5th St Brooklyn NY 11211 to enjoy a “posada,” a traditional celebration with singing and a piñata! There will be dancing, delicious food and a traditional dance from Latin America.
At the Posada, we will be celebrating another year of Lucha and Justicia. In 2015, WJP members have shown the courage and determination to reshape their workplaces and communities. In unity, we have won some incredible gains including,
- Winning a historic city investment for day laborer centers and worker cooperatives, which is a significant steps towards validating day laborer center as community institutions and building democratic workplaces in the community.
- Launching a worker-community organizing campaign that aims to win a new set of standards that will improve the working conditions of women laborers.
- Creating more than 600 good construction jobs that pay living wages through a transparent and dignified hiring process that has been democratically established by workers at WJP’s Bay Parkway Community Job Center.
- Training over 450 construction workers in OSHA 10-hour construction safety training. This was achieved through WJP’s Safety Liaisons, who are member leaders, who train, monitor and take action to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities that are currently endemic in the NYC construction industry.
Also, if you sit down to plan your year-end giving, I hope you will consider making a special gift to Worker’s Justice Project. Your generosity will help us continue our work in 2016 and beyond. DONATE!
